Hey

My C2 needs some new tyres soon but the reader tyres have still got a decent chunk of tread left but they are crappy Michelin energy savers, so should I swap just the front or all four and will it affect performance that much? I'm considering getting toyo proxes cf1 as I get a discount from goodwood on toyo tyres.

Thanks

Just change the ones that need it. Axle pairs is okay, and better than most people have on their cars. I doubt you'll notice a difference tbh if you changed the rears away from the energy star things, 1.1 Citroen C2s don't strike me as being particularily tyre sensitive, so you may as well save your money for the next car fund smile

Move the Michelins to the front and put new on the back.
Energy savers aren't bad at all- premium tyres.

That sort of grip imbalance front to rear is likely to make the car a bit tail happy - and lift off oversteer is not funny when you don't want it. If you are going for something super grippy it'd probably be best to change the rears at the same time - either that or do something a little perverse, swap the rears to the front, and put the good tyres on the back. You'll kill the michelins pretty quickly without putting too much wear on the rear tyres, and then you can go for some good tyres again, swapping the old Toyos to the front.

I've never seen a C2 get its back end out, under steer yes but not tail happy.

New tyres on front. I'm sick of people thinking old tyres on back mean your shopping hatchback with a solid beam swing axle is going to oversteer wildly. All the backs do is roll, the fronts drive, take the most stopping force and steer. If you're going fast enough to make your C2 oversteer then it doesn't matter what tyres you have on the back.

I agree with this. I'm not saying that worse tyres at the rear will instantly cause wild overseer, but in a FWD I'd rather loose the front unexpectedly than the rear. smile

It's a simple equation. If the rear loses grip before the front, you will get oversteer. If the tyres at the front have a lot more grip than the tyres at the back, it's much more likely to happen.

Here's some bloke called Tiffany showing you how...

I thought the CF1's were the cheapo Toyos and not the 'performance' (I use the term loosely with Toyo) T1's you probably think they are?

I know it's not going to wildly oversteer it's just a bloody C2 I was just asking for some advice.

Well I'm not sure but sadly I'm limited to 175 size tyres so dont really have a huge selection of "performance" tyres to choose from.

New tyres on the rear, put the Mich's on the front, they are not a bad tyre at all, you are not likely to get problems on a C2 with that set up.

Fronts will then wear faster and you can change them to get all 4 the same as and when.

Best tyres always go on the back, lack of steering control there means it is harder to correct if you loose the back end. Any tyre dealer/manufacturer will tell you that.

To re-iterate, put the Michelins on the front to;
-kill them faster
-save wasting several mms of good tread
-save yourself buying 4 tyres all at once
-minimise any nasty handling or braking characteristics

...those are pretty much in order of importance in my opinion.
