I want to buy the above for roughly that price , but why is 90% of cars advertised are posing in a industrial car park with the laziest description ever or 2k over priced , it is genuinely like looking under stones .

Eh? A quick AT for me turns up 7 pages of TDI Golf's between 4 and 5k within 60 miles of me.

I don't believe it's that hard to find a diesel Golf for £5k with a half decent description in the advert.

Can't you buy a car that's like a Golf, or sounds like a Golf, has twin overhead cams just like a Golf/handles just like a Golf, instead.......?

Surely you buy from the other 10% advertised and that's the problem solved.

Buy a 2.0 Petrol Bora, pretty much the same experience and leaves a lot left for fuel as are much, much cheaper, plus that 2.0 engine is tough as old boots, think it dates back pretty much to the Audi 80/Golf GTI.

What a strange suggestion!

Why buy a Golf TDi ; a popular car with a popular, economical engine when you can buy a Bora 2.0 ; an unpopular car with an unpopular, uneconomical engine...

Maybe that's why you'll get a much better petrol Bora for your money...

Yep, sounds a very depressing situation.

Unlucky op. Look on the bright side, you might not be able to find one and then you can look for a much less depressing car.

Yes, i understand that, but why would you want a less practical, less econmical, slower car (overtaking for a kick-off) - just to save a few pounds?

Not even mentioning when you come to sell a TDi Golf will be a damn sight easier to sell and be worth a lot more, so the issue of 'cost saving' is about nil.

OP, i don't know the point of this thread if you're scared of buying private you'll just have to buy from a dealer and stump up the cash - if that is the problem?! ...and if you're still having trouble finding one then you need help...and not on here!

Less economical, well guess what petrol is cheaper than diesel currently, the difference in price buys quite a few gallons and you yourself said the market is depressing, everyone is clamouring for diesel Golf's hence why you see clocked, worn smooth sheds for a lot of money as there is the myth they run on fresh air and actually put money back in your bank account. The PD engines are great but a lot spank their way through oil at an alarming rate and its expensive, you can thrown pretty much anything in the petrol, nobody allows for that additional cost on their notional 45 mpg, the 2.0 petrol will be 10-12 mpg behind in all situations.

Faster, hmm, would imagine the 115 petrol is pretty much the same as the 115 diesel in outright performance, diesel will be obviously torquier and pull getter in a higher gear, that said the 2.0 isnt so bad.

Practicality, the rear seats fold down in the Bora so give a decent load area, you just lose the hatch bit, it is a bit longer though. Managed to get two bikes in pretty easily in my mates one.

Was just a suggestion, one that perhaps avoids the scrum for diesel Golf's and the price premium. Its funny how int he states its the total other way around.

I perhaps agree with J4CKO's latter comment about diesel Golfs, but I wouldn't suggest a 2.0 Bora. A 1.6 Bora, probably - the 1.6 is like less than a second quicker to 60 which is barely noticeable and being a 16v will feel like more of an ample car.

Thats the mistake I made with my 2.0 Bora, should have gone for the smaller engine. That 8v is so unrefined!
