Ultimate motorway vehicle for 8k?
Discussion
what would be your weapon of choice for a car to do 25k motorway miles per year to arrive refreshed and ready to go at potentially contentious meetings?
price about 8k- reliability and cost very important- outright performance not so. a lot of modern cars seem to have jittery rides and firm seats- ideas?
oh shoudl also have a bluettoth handsfree, and ideally be an estate with 4wd!!!

The estate and 4wd part make it tricky, otherwise I would have recommended a Citroen C6 or Jag S-type/ XJ diesel.
Large cars tend to be more bargy and comfy, but other than Audi Quattros(which tend to be quite firm), I can't think of a decent comfy and economical 4wd estate.
How about a Merc E270?

If you hadn't said estate, i'd have said 3.0TDI A8.
Well, it wouldn't be my choice, but it probably wouldn't be a bad choice.
Why an A8? Of all the large luxo barges, Audi's are known to have the worst ride quality. Be much better off in a Lexus LS, or anything else in the class tbh.Well, it wouldn't be my choice, but it probably wouldn't be a bad choice.

Really? The air suspension in the A8 is pretty damn good in my experience. One of these?

4wd drive not key- actually estate isn't key either
being massively comfortable IS key though- haven't found modern day passats and the like comfy- the seats don't "coddle"- you sit on them rather than "in" them.
Oh, well my suggestion of an A6 Avant quattro will be changed to a Lexus LS430, then.being massively comfortable IS key though- haven't found modern day passats and the like comfy- the seats don't "coddle"- you sit on them rather than "in" them.

I drove a Volvo V70 in diesel guise and to my shock horror I was rather impressed. If I needed a motorway crusier to do very high miles then I'd go for a Diesel E Class. Not in estate guise and it's not 4WD! Mega comfortable and nice places to be.

Another vote for V70 D5s. Volvo do the best seats, ride is lovely, excellent hi-fis and very relaxing, and you'll get more for your £8k than you will from ze Germans.
My old year 2000 V70R-AWD is a better place to be on the motorway than my Mum's new A6 3.0TDi - (rubbish fuel economy notwithstanding).
