I have just taken my road car off the road (SORN) to begin it's transformation into my track car. There is still a third party fire and theft policy covering it at the moment and I cant see me getting myself another road car to transfer the policy over to for another 2 or 3 weeks at least. I know there have been recent legal changes so where do I stand in keeping the policy running on a car that's not on the road?

As far as I know you should be fine.I dont think there is any reason why you cant insure a car with no tax.I recently sold a westfield which I SORN over the winter months but i kept the insurance running obviously incase it was stolen.

Just dont go out on the roads with no tax!

Surely you can just leave the policy running until you're ready to transfer it to another car.

Should this thread not be in SP&L if you're asking whether it's strictly legal to do the above?

thanks for the response maybe it should be in the other forum I'm not sure.
I'm thinking I should be fine as well they still have their money and it still theoretically could get pinched off my drive etc. but wanted a double check as I'm not sure on these new insurance rules

the insurance rules work the other way around. if its not sorned it must be insured, but if its on sorn it doesent have to be insured but can be.

They work the same way around
If its not sorned it must be taxed but if it's on sorn it doesnt have to be taxed but can be.
The tricky part is making sure DVLA hasnt cancelled your tax when you SORN, unless you do want the tax cancelled/refunded of course
