So I got in my car and started thinking about all the resources I was using and all the carbon I was emitting. I'm sure many PH'ers regularly feel the same way, opening up the throttle only as an act of self loathing, the enjoyment of apexing a bend soon annulled by the depression of knowing that you're killing the world. Surely the responsible thing would be to bin the car?

My route took me from Hassocks, over the South Downs and down to the Hove end of Brighton, a killer stretch of tarmac commonly known as the road to Devil's Dyke. The temperature drop between the bottom and top of the hill was quite significant, fortunately though I didn't adjust my driving and was soon presented with a wet road, low temperature and a golden opportunity.

The car slid on a right hand bend. Clearly it was well within my ability to control the resultant tank slapper, however, being an upstanding member of the community I did the environmentally friendly thing and let the car spin. A roadside bush passed my window at a jaunty angle, as if the local flora was happy to see the demise of another petrol monster. The audio track was a symphony of bangs and scrapes.

Coming to rest in a field I observed how my hands were shaking, who knew environmental activism could be such a rush! Looking round the car I could see that most body panels had some sort of dent or scrape, apparently traveling backwards through a barbed wire fence will do that to a car. If you're looking to do some environmental activism yourself I can recommend it as an alternative to rolling the car, much safer.

My insurance company haven't confirmed my 'success' yet so it's touch and go but I'm expecting a write off. Damn, didn't want that celica anyway.

Tartan Pixie - Saving the world one horrid petrol burner at a time.

Lots of little scrapes n bumps that don't really show in the pics. Maybe I'll be lucky and the insurers will fix it?

Why couldn't you just be honest and say you crashed?

I think his driving skill comments were sarcastic.

Is that one of those carpet things that goes round the base of a toilet?

Thanks, I was thinking a Saab 900 Turbo might be more environmentally friendly than a Prius? Hopefully they'll fix the celica though.

It goes round the sink in the shower room so don't worry there's no stale pee, only mouldy toothpaste ^_^
