Straight Car Exchange with Car Dealer ?

As above really.....
Do dealers ever do straight exchanges ?
The wife wants rid of her car but I can't be bothered selling then purchasing. The new car must be cost neutral so.....
If forecourt cost of her car is £20k would they exchange a car on their forecourt for £17k ?
This is hypothetical as she doesn't want another Range Rover, but would an Indy do something like this ? A FFRR for a 520 BMW one worth £20k and one worth £17k ?

I know I'm being lazy but trying to shift a rangie privately could be difficult given MPG etc so I'm prepared to take a hit so to speak.

Any advice gratefully received !

As long as he can see a profit to be made from the deal in the long run i'd imagine he would go for it. He will want top money for his and offer low end on yours.

When I sold cars and vans I did do this a few times.

I've also swapped people into cheaper cars and gave back the difference.

Just go and ask the dealer. Remember they are a business and wont do it for free, but if they beleive they can turn a profit on your car when they sell it then thats all that should matter.

Sounds like you have the right idea though, regarding the price of yours vs theirs.

I've taken an average forecourt price on the FFRR and the (obviously inflated) forecourt price on the BMW, extending his profit margin !

Spoken with the dealer and he says he'll get back to me with a price for the RR.
I was honest from the outset with my intention so we will wait and see. He seemed surprisingly interested ??!!
