Over the last week I have seen three HGV of the foreign plate variety attempt dangerous and potentially fatal manoeuvre

Two Polish registered and another French cutting across in front of cars at 70mph into a gap not long enough forcing all drivers in the lane behind to slow

Do foreign HGV drivers have to take a test or apply for a special license to drive on UK roads?

More to do with the crap standard of driving in the UK. If I'm ever passing a lorry, you can bet your arse that there's at least a lorry and a half's worth of gap between me and the car in front. If you leave that gap then you never get cut up. Simples.

In answer to your question no, just their own national test although I don't think Polish along with Hungarian drivers take any test at all. wink

Left hooker swipes.
Not uncommon and yes it is a problem.
There is blind spots which is why it's a stupid idea to undertake RHD trucks.
With LHD the blind spot is where cars are normally overtaking.(in the UK)

It's been discussed a lot on other forums and ideas of making sure LHD trucks have the relevant blind spot mirrors in place when leaving the ports. However once again safety is swept aside due to financing.

Just have to be aware of them.Read the number plate,if it's foreign give it a wide berth and look ahead of it to see if it is going to be moving out for an overtake.
Don't put yourself in a position of hanging around next to it,hold back and let the line overtake and then you go.

Look at it from the other side, literally. Those truck drivers sit on the left in the cab and visibility is restricted. They do their best but they do have some fairly hefty blindspots.

A sensible driver will look at the situation, realise the truck is gaining on the one in front, and hang back.

I've had a car's shape altered by a foreign driver.

They're a bit of a menace and best avoided.
