VW Golf Climatic

I have a MK5 Golf with what I believe is Climatic heating in it. It has numeric temperatures round the heater dial in other words.
I know about bog standard AC, and I know about climate control. But what is the Climatic system and how does it work compared to basic heating?

I dont know the Golf 5 but have had other cars with systems that sound the same as the one you describe, so I guess this is the same. Its a halfway house between aircon and full climate.

You set the dial to a fixed temperature with the AC on and the system maintains the air coming out of the vents at that temperature.

This differs from full climate which will vary the temperature of the air coming from the vents to maintain the cabin at the desired temperature.
