Buying a second hand car in 2020.

This months EVO has an article on a number of second hand performance cars and its quite frightening how expensive these cars could be due to their complexity. My worry is that with much of this tedchnology filtering down to bread and butter cars, what horrors await the hard up family car buyer in 2020? I read the Honest John buying guides and it seems nearly EVERY current car has issues, be it oil pressure pump failure, injectors, DPFs, turbos, ASRS, PASMs, ABS, Climate control, etc etc...wont cars just be scrapped? In fact, is it better just to hang onto an older simpler car and hope you dont have a crash in it!!!

It's cyclical. When EFI, electric windows, power steering etc came along, I bet people were saying the same thing, and that nothing would ever be as reliable as the good old Marina with it's simple parts.

By the time current cars get old, what are now complex parts will be mainstream and cheaper, and new cars will have lasers and what not that will make us look back fondly at current cars.
