Loss of traction / slide - why ?
Discussion
Three times tonight between Ferrytoll and Rosyth I felt loss of traction/slide. Cant really understand why...
Conditions - dry
Temperature - 6 deg C
Car - Mazda 6 2.0 petrol
Tyres - Fulda Kristall, pressures checked 2 days ago
Slide 1 - Normal approach to straight on through medium roundabout, lowish speed, 3rd gear. Into the second part of the roundabout, slowly accelerating, I was about to turn the wheel left to take the exit and felt the front suddenly wash out, followed by a wobble from the rear.
Progressed to the petrol station where I was filling up after a spot of fuel light bingo from Edinburgh! Checked tyres and wheels etc, all fine no sign of pressure issues to the eye. Filled up and left station.
Loss of traction - Its busy pulling out of the petrol station at this time, and after finding a suitable gap, left the station, applying a decent amount of power bearing in mind the gap to next car approaching - result, pile of wheelspin up to 3000rpm which sorted itself out.
Slide 2 - 200 yards along the road, turning right. Medium speed as I was crawling on approach to give way to traffic. Again as I went to turn the wheel left, in 2nd gear, at no more than 12-13mph, front washed out and back and wobbled, loss of traction momentarily after the slide sorted itself.
I'm not talking Tokyo Drifting here, more a light but sudden slide. No sign of any issues with the car and I went through another 5 roundabouts before arriving home and drove a touch more cautiously than normal. Couldnt replicate the slide at all and traction was fine.
Just keen to try and understand it, my only thought was that with it being the main route Rosyth Docks to Kincardine, my guess is diesel from HGVs on the road ?
Any other thoughts ? Definately wasnt driving like a d
head, all of this action occurred below 20mph and 3000 rpm !

On way back up the road there's a hill and my wheels lost traction(no traction control) in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear only going speed limit. Think although ambient temp is above freezing, wind chill and night temps have caused some roads to ice slightly.

Very cold Tarmac which has been repeatedly dusted with salt. Also summer tyres don't work well at below five degrees or so.
These are nice winter tyres, been excellent thus far in the cold and wet - the roads were very very salty though !Look at how white your treads are next time you are outside the car. It's like talcum powder. I get the front to light up just by pressing harder on the pedal when pottling along at thirty in third.
Great fun.
How much tread do they have? They are decent tyres Fox - bought a set last year for my Ovtavia after extensive research on some of the German tyre tests. Was going to buy some Vredestein (still did for the XF) as had never really heard of Fulda but someone on bmwland suggested I consider them.
