hello,

anyone know how to find out the following, i have tried the usual searches and local council office is shut, it is a saturday after all

i have a large merc sprinter van on hire at moment, its fully sign written from the hire company.

i parked at home last night, not blocking anyone it, not causing issues for anyone

next door this morning was major pissed with me when i was loading some more stuff in the van

apparently it is not legal to park a sign written van is a reidentual road over night

anyone know the law regarding this ?

Unless there's a local by-law, you can do what you want.

Rubbish. No law says that, sadly. They may not like you lowering the tone of the neighbourhood. :-)

It's possible for it to be a condition of a lease, but that's not a law.

Yes, it's no law to stop you doing this, its called a life.
Tell the moaning knoba to go and wash his socks.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ! PMSL!!

There may be covenants or local bylaws on properties prohibiting you from parking caravans, or running a business from it, but parking a signwritten van on a residential road. Oh do behave!

If it was a vehicle subject to operators licencing (ie: over 3.5T), then it should not be "operated" from a residential street, though there's nothing to stop you from parking there temporarily (for the purposes of loading/unloading, or taking a rest break).

Under 3.5T is pretty well treated as per a passenger car.

Although I own my house, the land is part of an estate. The title deeds state no caravans, commercial vehicles etc allowed. Of course it's quietly ignored and I'd ignore anyone in your situation.

You may have something similar tucked away in all that print?

Assuming that it's a covenant then by the time anyone does anything it will be long gone.

Also who's going to enforce (and pay to enforce) the covenant!

This is the same where I live, except with the stipulation regarding commercial vehicles is 7.5 ton & over, as above it is not enforced as we regularly bring our caravan home & park it on the neighbours driveway the night before we go away. But then we are a bit unusual in so much as we know most of our neighbours quite well & we all get on.

Don't stress yourself out over it unlike your neighbour. Just nod, smile and do nothing smile

I had a neighbour say this to me. As you can imagine I have always had a sign written van.

He wasn't moaning as such just sort of "pointing it out". Unfortunately some people don't like the thought of builders/couriers/mechanics etc living on their road.

I just retorted with an "oh really" and went on my way.

We can't all work in offices and go to work in a suit after all.
