Used to see loads, handmade for sale signs in the window listing the spec and price £ Ono.

Hardly see em at all now and I miss them. Used to enjoy speculating as to what the sale price would be.

Anybody else noticed this?

Not really, I saw one or two cars and a couple of vans like this yesterday. confused
Maybe it was more frequent once upon a time.

I would, but my car is parked in a private underground garage so the potential market would be distinctly limited.

Well considering everyone has the internet nowadays why would you make a cheap looking sign in your car, doesn't give off a good impression.

Have a look on AutoTrader and note the split between private and trade sales.

It's very different to how it used to be. In part, the existence of WeBuyAnyCar will soak up a lot of it.

Even among those who do sell themselves, sticking an ad online to a national audience is so cheap and easy and shows your car to far more people than those who live in your street.

Has anyone ever actually sold a car through one of those signs?

I used to pop one in the window but never, ever had a call so don't bother any more.

There are a few parked on George street in Aberdeen, and the same E39 523i auto has been driving round Inverness with a sign on it for months.

I put a sign up in the last car I sold. Had about 3 or 4 enthusiastic enquiries, which led nowhere, not even a phonecall or viewing...ended up trading it in the end.

I bought one once. Mk2 Golf Gti 16v parked in a 'nice' residential area. Was a good car too.

10 years ago though.

I've posted this before, but, four months ago, Toyota Aygo, 7k miles, FSH, one owner etc. £3k from a note in the window. Really good deal both ways,, seller said she used this method as she was fed up with all the time wasters from the web, stating that the advert in the window meant you only called if serious, worked for her and me.
