I have a had a reasonable new PS3 blow out on me whilst returning down the m3 tonight.

It was on the rear, and when looking at it, the only way I can describe it is that the inside wall has split in a perfect line all the way round the wall, about a cm or two from the alloy. I am wondering if its worth contacting the manufacturers, or if its just bad luck.

I have never had a blow out, so have no idea if this is common or not.

It's been on the car for 6 months, probably 3k in total. Still has tons of tread left.

Pressure was good, only checked this morning before driving to London.

Could it have been flat for a while....I'm going to say no, as it was behaving normally all the way down m3, then near Winchester it just went bang.

Similar thing happened to us, took it to the tyre place we bought it from and he pointed to the nail in it and said it must have got a puncture, deflated and then overheated causing the damage.

Similar happened to me. Missus had commented that last time she checked the tyres is was "at 10 or 100 or something". I check the tyre pressures these days.

Sounds like the pressure has dropped to me, any sign of damage where a nail could have been in?

Sincerely doubt you'll get anywhere, the cause of the blow is most likely that the tyre was driven on whilst underinflated and they will see this as your fault.

Worked in tyre centres for 4 years and can't think of a successful claim for a blow out.

If the tyre has been driven under-inflated there will be visible damage to the sidewall inside the tyre.
