I'm looking at spending the largest amount of money I have ever spent on a vehicle in the near future and having been lucky and somewhat cheap before I have never used the services of a vehicle checking service.

Is there just one who shines above the rest ?

Do they insure there data as corect so you can claim from them if a suposedly clean car turns out to have outstanding finance or a recorded cat D or worse against it ?

Is it worth geting one of the motoring organisations to do an inspection? I do know my way around a car and can and have done every thing from changing bulbs to clutches in the past however a car seen from a difrent perspective may yeild issues I may not know to look for.

HPi

If you feel you need to get an inspection done then get a reputable marque specialist rather than a 'motoring organisation', imo.

There are only two to worth using, as the cheap ones lack most of the data used by the 2 main ones.

cheers guys, the hpi website is quite indepth and the insurance against incorect data requies a few hoops to be jumped through but it dosent apear to be that mutch of a ball ache.

Has anyone ever claimed for false data drom hpi and if so what occured ?

I totaly agree with the spacilist rather than joe bloggs from the AA however finding a specalist who has the time to inspect and wont charge the earh may be an issue.

I just hpi and then attack with a fine tooth comb before parting with the reddies, if I buy from a dealer with a good rep then hopefully any issues can be sorted under waranty.

I use the text message HPI for £3. As far as I know, it tells you for sure. All comes from the same database. Doesn't tell you if it has finance though.
