FAO those who said part worn winter tyres we pointless.

Basically, your wrong! and that's it, plain and simple, you are wrong.
I few months ago I got a full set of part worn Ebay snow tyres to put on my BMW E36 325i they were 4.5mm-5mm. Since then, I've used them loads, I've been heavy handed with them, I've generally not treat my car as you should. I estimate the rears are down to maybe 3.5mm of tread now.
Now the overgrown child in me heard the weather forecast earlier, and planned on chasing the snow. So, tonight, I've driven about 150miles, all in the snow, varying from motorway slush, to hardpack, soft falling stuff, crunchy stuff and got turned around because roads were closed. Not once did I have any bother.
On slushy roads, it feel like driving on a normal road, on hardpack snow, I'd say they offer the grip levels of maybe driving on gravel/wet grass. and in deep snow (my bumper pushing snow out of the way) I had to once rock the car on the clutch, to get enough of a push to get it moving, then it was fine, climbing a fairly steep hill.
If you want to tit about with them, they're also great, in the deep stuff around the back of my work, 3rd gear powerslides at whatever speed wanted were attainable and you could stop fairly quick too when needed.
Basically, I just wanted to say on here, after reading people saying not to buy the part worn ones, that they're fine, and whilst ones with 8mm of tread are probably better, these, with 3.5mm of tread, made my car fantastic in the snow and in my opinion, these are more than enough for anything the British winter will throw at us

well, at a guess, a lot of people would change their tyres when running them as low as I currently am. Yet they're still working fantastically. Its not a show off post, I just felt that if people were put off by part worns and the low amounts of tread, they shouldn't be, I'm convinced, they're fat better than full tread summer tyres.
I think the thing with part worn is where you buy them from. If you get them from the garage and can have a look at them yourself aswell as get them to fit them, not a problem. Its just to be wary when buying from the internet etc, because you really don't know what you're buying.
