OK, well I've long thought an Audi A2 would be the perfect runaround for me but unfortunately I just cannot bring myself to buy something with such an ugly a*se.

However I have just stumbled upon the solution... the A2 caddy!

Now I know alot of my fellow pistonheaders will not approve/say its pointless/suggest an alternative/say it has a lovely bum, but suppose you were mad enough to do a conversion from car to pick up what sort of expense would you be looking at and where would you go to get it done?

that looks like a trainer. There was a rather decent merc conversion in the badly modified cars thread recently though. I can imagine it being surprisingly cheap

Prototype engineering can be very expensive.
Find someone who has done a few and it could be surprisingly cheap.

Seems a lot of trouble to go through just so you won't have to look at the back of an A2 every time you open the boot.

It would definately be a lot of trouble for whoever did the work. For me it would probably just be a lot of expense! It's obviously a bonkers idea but I was just trying see how much you have to pay to get a bonkers idea done. It wouldn't be the first nonsensical thing to be done on PH and thats what I like about this place.

If it was cheap enough I'd do it to give you all a laugh at my "trainer car" smile

By my maths thats 5k, more than I thought but would that get you a result that looks like the picture or would you look like a hillbilly who had got his hacksaw out?
Oh and what does "pug it" mean? I'll guess blow it over means respray?

Yup aluminium welding is a fine art, be careful OP plenty of cowboys out there, if it's not done right it will fall apart. Isn't this the car with some plastic cover over the engine that can only be removed with a special tool from Audi?

Never saw what was so special about these. Bad way to waste cash imo.

If you're cutting the monocoque it probably won't be road legal by the DVLA and VOSA, as its being changed to a 'modified commercial vehicle' and there is no such test for a car - http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ge...

South west. I have read that getting the IVA is an issue and it seems the general consensus is "don't be an idiot".....is anyone going to keep the dream alive? smile

That looks great! Could you try and contact the owner? They might be able to give tips.

Nice, someone who agrees with me!

Pidsy, thanks for the suggestion, may well look him up. The one pictured above is the only one and was done as a project by Audi trainees in Germany I understand. I'll get in before "escortwagon" with the "trainees made a trainer" gag.....

Contacted Marco,

Said it can be done but I think the price is probably too high to justify.
