I've a music/sync question though.

There's a very definite beat to the audio track you've used, but you don't seem to use it as cut points all the time. Granted you have to alter the timing to off beats at some points, but there seems to be some cuts that miss a beat altogether;

eg:01:26 front shot sync'ed to beat change and to rear shot at 01:27 (ish)
...but the next 2 cuts are off sync.

Is there a reason for this?
Sorry I'm not being a git here, but I've just spent the last 3 days editing a corporate video to a Katie Perry song where the client was very insistent certain 'crescendo's' and beats met salient points of text, so just interested in hearing another perspective.

I'm a petrol head/automotive film maker so not sure what the editing rules and principles are with music videos. I guess find a music video you like and check the transition timings.

The 6 cylinder engine sounds so sweet especially when accelerating through the gears. Cant wait to hear what the new M3 will sound like.

Driver seems to be sitting very low in the car. His nose is level with the top of steering wheel and masses of room above his head. Has he folded the rear seat down as well as a further add to lowering the centre of gravity (or does that only work on Saxos)?

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule really - I'm no pro.
I just find that music naturally has a beat, and timing any edits to the beat really help tighten it all up.
It's surprising at how much this is done too, just make a note when next watching any TV - film trailers really depend on this technique too.
I've spent many a time tapping in marker points on audio tracks that I later use to edit too.

Just a quick one.
What camera are you using?
Is it an SLR?

We're possibly looking to upgrade an old Canon Mini DV camera we have here, so rather than going for 'just' a film camera I thinking that a decent SLR (Canon D5???) would be more than capable, plus having the bonus of still shots too.

Hi there.

We use a number of different cameras and lens's depending on what type of shot we want or how big the production budget is. The cameras we own or hire, all have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example DSLR's are great for shallow depth and for getting into tight places but has rolling shutter issues. Red cameras are great for filming action but you'll need a big budget and a suite that can handle the workflow. And then there are cameras in-between which also have there own advantages for rigging or attaching to cranes etc.

Sorry to be vague but it really depends on what you are filming?
