Rear fog lights - Why don't people know how to use them?

Why is it, with just the slightest hint of fog or mist, so many people reach for that button and blind me with red mist? Fog lights are only to be used with visibility below 100 yards, which is rare these days, and yet when I'm sitting in traffic behind people, clearly able to see them, they don't turn them off. Drives me round the bend it does. Cue switch on the main beam at said idiot and blind them back. TURN THEM OFF!!!

I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times i've had to use them in over 20 years of driving. Maybe i've been lucky with the weather or something.

People don't know how to use them because they aren't taught how, and they aren't tested. Sure, you could read the highway code, but it is extremely thick and when you are studying at college or uni, you have better things to read.
A few months after your test, you start to think, often quite rightly, that you are a reasonable driver and therefore the highway code is no longer needed, as you have picked everything up by driving in the real world.
Furthermore, there is no schooling system other than expensive lessons on how to drive properly, and people try and take as few lessons as possible, in order to reduce the amount of hard earned cash they've bought.
People also don't realise how bright their rear fogs are.
People think foglights look cool, which is understandable as they often do, and they don't realise how irritating they can be.
Most of the time, it is only stuck up pistonheaders who think they know everything, who care about what other people do, as long as it doesn't affect them greatly.
If this is the most annoying thing in your life right now, I'm extremely jealous

This is a forum for petrol heads and car fans yes? Why is it on nearly every thread posted on here, someone feels they have the right to try and start some argument or other, rather than a constructive viewpoint on the subject matter?
As it happens, they don't look 'cool', they have a purpose and should be used properly! Maybe you should read that highway code you refer to!!

I'd also wager that as most PHers drive at speeds 'above average', they tend to end up behind/overtaking more cars. If you're doing the same speed as everyone else, unless the car in front has it's rear fogs on, you're never going to notice how b
d bright they are Presumably the lady driving the black Astra in the fog on the M80 this morning was so worried about this topic that she decided not to use any lights at all.
I presume there's another thread somewhere about people reclining the driver's seat too far, because she was well hunched forward over the steering wheel. Or maybe she was just doing that to help her see where she's going?

Eh? It's a thin paperback. No challenge even for a foolMy rear fogs have always got turned off as soon as i could see headlights in my mirrors. My mum taught me that though, not the highway code.
The only useful thing i learned from that book was what roadsigns meant!

On the contrary, this morning on the motorway I was getting angry at people for NOT having them on. The amount of vehicles sat in the middle lane almost completely invisible until right on top of them. Also, more than a few tractors and quads out this morning on rural roads with no lights at all.Galsia said:

Front fogs are to be used in conjunction with main beams when a tt is approaching from the front.

But surly the morons have the ability to see, and to see the other morons infront of them blinding them with their fog lights on in the slightest hint of a bit of mist.Now surly they can work out that if they are being blinded by fog lights infront then they are blinding the driver behind?

The worst part of it all is that they effectively 'mask' the brake lights if mounted near to them, so make it more likely that you are going to have a rear end shunt. Also, on a motorway you cannot tell if people up front are braking for something or just driving with rear fogs on. Why could they not be a different colour to distinguish them from the brake lights?

You can't beat PH, though. The 'argh I'm BLINDED by fog lights (and DRL)' threads are hilarious. If your vision is that impaired by bright lights you shouldn't be driving.
