UK roads: where is everyone?

Driven a couple of hundred miles today on major routes (inc M4 & M5), but there was hardly any traffic about. Where is everyone? No snow, fog or ice. Mind you I did pay £1.50 / litre for diesel, which might have something to do with it!

Everything seems to be pretty quiet at the moment. Business is well down and the roads are at worst 'reasonable'

I noticed after leaving work at about 6:30pm to go to supermarket that there were very few people on the road.

Edit: I'm blaming the weather. I don't think anyone wants to do anything 'extra' at the moment. And... quite a few people having post-Christmas humble life after paying off credit-card and overdraft.

They are all driving to my local area and around the roads I take on my commute, and preventing me from getting to work.
