Do you wait for it to break?

A warranty question. I have a 2005 Golf which is under an extended warranty. It is automatic and if you lift off the power there is a bit of a whining noise as it slows down. Have no mechanical knowledge so no idea if gearbox or something else (or even if it is a problem - do autos do this?), but question is whether I just run it and wait for something to break or will warranty companies pay out for something preventative?

Genuinely, it depends on the level of cover and wether the guy at the dealership got laid last night,

Personally, if your warranty is due up in the next 3 months or so, id take it to them and tell them it whines and judders on deceleration.

Let them poke around it and you never know they may sort it out

Anyone else? Do I wait for imminent failure or take it somewhere? Views on what the noise is most appreciated!

my vitara has been making an annoying continuous really loud clicking sound for the past 13months..

im still waiting for whatever it is to break so i can fix it lol

I would take it into the dealer, if they say No You have lost nothing, and if it does go wrong at a later date, you may have some comeback if you report it now.

I found when I took my roadster in for warrenty work, at this time of year they would just go ahead and do it.
I remember once I took the roadster in because the steering wheel had come loose, I think it was only the locknut. but I ended up having a new steering rack and steering wheel.

As it's under warranty, definitely bring it up but don't panic if they don't fix it- sometimes gearboxes whine for years and years without anything actually breaking.

Similar but different- On my 17 year old volvo the syncromesh went on 1st gear just outside of warranty. Had it been in warranty it would have been fixed, but as it wasn't it still has no syncromesh into 1st gear 15 years and 200,000 miles later!
