First Car (21): Unsure about what "type" of car to buy...

Hey,
Well in a few months I will be done with University. I already have a job lined up which will be paying a pretty decent paycheck. I need to start looking, and eventually buy a car. However I am unsure about what type to invest in.
- I'll be doing ~50miles per day (90% motorway).
- I want a car that will be comfortable to drive and a decent build (so not a little tinny car)
- Preferably want a diesel due to the motorway and miles per day
Now, in terms of the price, this will be "my" first car (currently using my mums every so often) thus I have 0 NCD. However, the price is what i'm stuck on.
These are the 2 examples I have come up with:
1) 2008 SEAT LEON 2.0 16V TDI FR 5DR

2) 2009 VOLKSWAGEN Scirocco 2.0 TDI

Now i'm not expecting the insurance to be cheap ((both IG 12) ~1.5k) but the question on my mind is:
Do I spend £7k on a car that I like, wont last me as long, will probably cost me more on services and stuff like that, or,
Do I spend 14k on a car that I really really like, will last me for a longer time, with the low mileage it will less than likely cost me less on services etc.
However, the obvious thing: The more expensive car with less mileage car will depreciate lots more than a cheaper car. This is whats putting me off buying the more expensive car.
Doesn't have to be a 2.0, I want something will a little pace on it, but thats not what i'm bothered about (so a 1.6 Diesel would be cool as well).

My original plan was to spend around 8k and get a cheaper car. However that was before I found out I would be doing 50 miles a day on the motorway. But yeah, I would buy the car straight up... I would feel naughty spending 14k on my first car, but damn, I do love the Sciroccos. Either way, 14k is my absolute max.
See if you can get a tidy focus RS mk1 or higher end MR2 turbo for 7/8 grand and spend the rest on insurance, if you've got the money for the scirocco then spend the rest on that? Plus some fuel money if have thought! Okay well maybe if it's your first car then they could be a little scary but surely there's more fun to be had than a scirocco or Leon? Clio sport 197/200?
Hmm yeah true, but some of my mates have had bad experience buying cars with high mileage (Focus ST for 7/8K will no doubt be full pedal to the metal too).
Problem is, putting in a few false details on insurance companies to make myself 21 and been driving 4 years (No NCD), seems to bring back around 1.9k for the Scirocco (Direct Line) and others wont even insure me, while its about ~1.4k on a Leon FR for example.

if it was me id go for the seat leon.
For a simple fact its got a VW diesel lump in it, and they go forever, my last vw diesel lasted 279k, of which 122k was in my ownership, sure it will loose value but its your first car, just gives you that little bit extra cash to save up for somthing you really want when you earn more NCB.

A Mondeo, Bora, MK4 Golf, Civic, older Leon, Accord etc would be good places to start looking.

For me, it would all come down to how you're funding it.
If you've got the money to by the Scirocco (sp?!) then I would consider that.
If you're financing, I wouldn't buy either of those personally.

50 miles a day isn't that much. A decent petrol wouldn't cost you much more as you will be cruising on the motorway for most of it anyway.
Might be worth doing a comparison between a petrol and diesel version of the cars you are looking at and see which is really better for you.
Out of the 2 cars you mention I'd choose the scirocco as I think they look great.

Yeah, I mean I think if I bought a Scirocco I would have it for much longer, rather than a Leon. It's just if I was doing 10 miles a day I would defiantly get a Scirocco, just with 50, I know it would pretty rapidly be decreasing in value.
