VAT on fuel for Air Ambulances

A sensible move by the York MP - requesting exemption from VAT (or a refund of VAT paid) for fuel for Air Ambulances
That would put them in line with lifeboats, which qualify for VAT free fuel apparently.
Surely its scandalous enough that Air Ambulances have to subsist as charities with little / no government funding, let alone then fork out VAT on fuel.

I am minded to start one of those government petition thingies - would that be any use?
Here is some information about the EDM - has your MP signed it and, if not, would you consider writing to them to suggest that they do so?

I suspect that like the RNLI, they actually choose NOT to take government money because it comes with too many bureaucratic e strings attached that means less money actually ends up doing the job it's meant to. Hi Guys and ladies
Just to let you know this campaign started a few months ago by myself after attending a bikers rally in aid of the North Yorkshire Air Ambulance. At this rally one of the Air Ambulance guys was chatting with me when he told me they have to pay VAT on the fuel they use I was gob smacked. He said people had tried to get things changed in the past but nothing came of their efforts. I wrote to MEP' MP's and anybody else that I thought would listen but was getting very little help. I then suggested to my MP (Huge Bailey) that we could put down an Early Day Motion and as VAT rules are set by the EU it was decided a way round this would be to give Air Ambulance charities their VAT back by way of a grant.
I have started an E Petition and need 100,000 signatures to get it debated in the House of Commons, anything you can do to help us get the signatures would be much appreciated.

Our local one certainly prefers to DIY when it comes to funding - they then have the freedom to buy the kit they want/need rather than ending up with some pile of crap that won the lowest bid in response to the competitive tender documents put together by morons in an office in London with no knowledge of or experience in air ambulance operations. See just about any MoD procurement...Twitter is your friend on this. See if you can get some high profile people to retweet your petition link. They seem to do that a lot. e.g Alan Sugar, Steven Fry, Richard Branson - also some of the big names in Motorsport. Alan Sugar has 1.6M followers and Steven Fry has 3.8M at the last look.
Edited to add, actually I don't recall seeing R. Branson re-tweeting, I suppose his people do the tweeting. Oh and he's a manmadeup climate change believer so clearly not that clever anyway.

I'd agree with this, it's a shame Hamster hasn't got a twitter account.I'd also be looking to see which local papers, etc use twitter.
Might help your cause to point out this change in government policy.
