Asymmetric Vs directional tyres

What are the advantages of these two different tyre designs? I have googled it but cant find anything comparing the advantages of each.

I currently have T1R's (directional) on my 156 and they are great, except when its cold. Then the combination of cold tyres + hard ride + crappy uk roads, makes it pretty skittish.

any ideas anyone?

This might be garbage, but I'm sure I recall when I got my Uniroyals being told that directional tyres were better in wet conditions, and especially at preventing aquaplaning? Makes sense (in my head at least ) and to be fair in the wet they are bloody fantastic.

Certainly the idea of directional tyres is that you can design them to optimise their ability to clear water when rotating in a particular direction.

I've never understood the idea behind of asymmetrics, be interested to know the answer.

I presume that it's because the outside wall loads up more during cornering. Look at the Goodyear F1 Asymetrics. The outside wall is very solid.
