70's Mini van vs 2008 Cooper S - which is fastest?

Over the last 30 years I have regularly driven from Sheffield to Lancs
30y ago I drove a shagged Mini van with slidey windows
Now I have access to a Mini Cooper S with bigger tyres than a 90's BMW and forced induction
In the 80's you had to drive through Manchester city centre on minor roads
Today there is a motorway ring road
Can you guess which of above clocked my personal best time door to door?
By a country mile.....

Heavy traffic and speed cameras do not make a happy cocktail for the keen driver
A blanket 50mph limit over the Snake Pass is obviously in our best interests for safety
It must be because thats what the police posters tell us
Depressingly when stuck behind someone doing a diligent, and safe, 45mph noone will overtake even on fast open and safe stretches in case there is a concealed camera leading to huge bunching of traffic with much frustration and the predictable heroic manoeuvre putting everyone at risk
Sad but true but at least the authorities have all of our interests at heart

The amount of fixed speed cameras between Mottram traffic lights and the bottom of the Snake pass is ridiculous, and most of them are painted in a dark green colour which blend in with the nearby foliage...
Also on the road out from Ashton up to Woolly Bridge via Mottram Road, Stalybridge..
