I'm sick. I'm suffering an illness that I presume affects most people here and on other forums all over the world.
My illness is....I spend more time researching a car than owning it.
I've been fortunate enough to own many nice cars (including Boxster S, M3, 535d, {ahem} Jeep Wrangler) but I get bored quickly. I've wasted thousands of pounds, so much so that I now impose a max budget of 12k. This isn't a "What can I buy for 12k" thread, I already know....a 335i, Z4 or S3. At least that's what I want today (and Mr Harris disturbed me and got me looking at 3200 Massers) once I've sold the Golf TDI 170 that I always hankered for...how long have I owned this once object of my desire...3 months!
Before that an M3 (8 months), prior to that a dabble with a classic E30 325 (11 months), Saab Aero (6 months), Mercedes 320CLK (9 months), BMW 535d (7 months), Porsche, Audi, the list goes on.
Mid life crisis? Maybe, I'm 42. But this started years ago, can anyone help? Does anyone else have this problem, ignoring their wife / girlfriend while sitting on the couch reading VolXXXX of 10k barges threads.
Oh and if you could recommend a 12k car that I can research, I'd be much appreciated, it'll be for sale in 6 months.

Ah sh!t....I'm a few years your junior and rather hoped I'd grow out of very similar activity...your case indicates this won't happen any time soon 
I too waste far too much on cars, far, far too much and I am yet to set a sensible maximum on what I buy so even more gets wasted than needs to. In the last year I've whipped through a C63, a 911 Turbo, a Maserati GT-S, an M3, a JagXFR and now an XKR (and I'm very surprised how good the Jag's are hence two in a row...can't believe I disregarded them for so long).
My only bit of sensibility is limiting myself to just one at a time which meant the Maserati lasted 4 months (because it was a bit....erm, average in comparison to the rest), the M3 three months (because it was my second M3 so the boredom set in quicker than usual) and the XFR just 6 weeks (actually, I really liked that but I 'won' a weekend in a XKR at my local dealer and was blown away at how good it was so the 4-door had to go). I have assured my other half the XKR will last the year out but instead I am now looking what to replace her Mini JCW with :bang head:
People like us.....we have issues (good issues, but issues nonetheless)!

I used to do something similar but on a lesser scale when I was in my teens/early twenties. I'd buy a car, spend loads of money on it, get interested in something else and sell it for less than I bought it for originally. I got better at it, buying cheaper cars, spending money on them and selling them for more than I paid, but never for more than I invested. The cure for me was running out of money!!
I think everyone's different.
