Insurance 'black boxes'

Was just getting a few quotes from confused.com, and one of the questions asked was:

'would you consent to having a device installed which would monitor how you drive'

Are insurance companies really starting to instal black boxes? Anyone had one installed?


Its a bit... creepy.

I know, it does kind of make sense. But I dont like the feeling of being monitored wherever I go. I like to be trusted.
I'm sure i'm not the only one who feels this way

- I've got 8 years no claims - i'd think that would be proof enough I'm reasonably sensible on the road.


Better idea:

Make these black boxes compulsory for new drivers? - if you drive well, you get rewarded with lower premiums.

and after 3 or 5 years trouble free with no incidents, you are free of the device, as youd have proved your ability to not drive like a twonk.

bad idea go over 70mph or take a corner too fast and it costs you £80.

when i did a quote it was £100 less than a normal policy but you do one wrong thing your pay mote in the long run, bad idea.

They were around when I passed my test, a fair few years back - the policy still worked out more expensive than a normal, "drive like every other 17 year old" policy.
