Laguna brake light problems.

Right need a bit of help with my banger, guys.
Got pulled for having no brake lights the other day. Copper didn't make a big deal and was very good about it. Had the car recovered home.
Now, the third (middle) brake light is illuminating just fine, as are my standard tail lamps. When I've got the lights off I have the offside rear brake light too, albeit a little dimmer than it should be I think. But with the lights on, when I brake I only get the middle brake light at the back and neither of the side ones.
Bulbs don't look blown.
Is it a case of change the bulbs and hope for the best... or a wonderful electrical issue?
P.s I will add too that I had no headlights the other morning, so had to drive on sides and front fog lamps. Once the car had warmed up a bit headlamps sprang back into life.

Sounds like an earthing problem - check the ones in the back near the taillights.
The dim rear lights you mention certainly point to this.
Alternatively could be a worn alternator or battery... both will give very odd problems in newer cars.
I'm guessing that once the car warmed up a bit you switched off the heated rear screen, seats warmers, windscreen demister and other electricity users?

I doubt it's a battery problem. It had a new alternator 14k ago and it's a fairly new bosch battery. It's never lazy starting etc...Does anyone know which bulbs do what on the back of a Laguna 1? The rear fogs work fine, as do the reversing lights. Are the brake lights the same bulbs as the rear lights?
Sorted it. The rear brake lights have bulbs with two filaments in. Swapped the bulbs over and I now have a working brake light under all conditions on the offside. One of the filaments has blown in the other side. Will get a new bulb tomorrow.
Still a bit worried about the headlights although they're working perfectly atm.
