Dartford tunnel - water dripping

It always has done, even since I was a kid. I know we're not meant to worry, but I do (whenever I drive through it). I come over all Sylvester Stallone - 'Daylight' in my head, just in case like. I also have an LED torch for survival. So, why does it leak, and when will it be a real problem?

I think it was just running down the inside of the roof of the tunnel from the exits (probably where snow has thawed from above them) rather than actually leaking.
I don't mean now, today while we've got cold weather. I mean it always does it - about half way along the tunnels & a couple of other random spots.CoolHands said:

Do you not realise that if we had a prolonged power cut in London, half the tube system would flood? Its constantly being pumped out. I see no reason why this isnt the case with the dartford tunnel. All tunneles leak to some extent, they are generally below the water table in many places, therefore they will flood.
Promise me this is a wind up (the post, not the torch!!!) And you carry a penknife too? What do you intend doing with that? Cutting through the concrete? Hope you can swim if it is!!!!

There are lots of reasons. Although I admit I've not made a study of the Dartford tunnel.BTW I have a penknife to help me along with my waterproof torch.
However for example.. do you know where the water is coming from? Most poeples first thoughts would be the river. But it could be a leaky water pipe, you get these loads on the London Underground.
Or it could be some other source of subterranean water that is penetrating certain parts of the tunnel.
The main thing is, the amount of water is not likely to flood the tunnel as it can and is pumped away. The only real threat would be erosion and potential deformation due to ground movement and land slip. But these things are likely closely monitored.
At the end of the day, having water that you know where it is running, is far more desirable on running water you can't see or know anything about.
