My last thread was mightily unsuccesful but I have ruled out the ST155 TDCI and have these left...

Which one would you go for?

Why is there a 4 cylinder diesel in the mix between two high performance petrols?

ST220 of course, IMHO smile

It was the 'sensible' option... I had to include one.

I see you own an ST220, could you give any advice on real world running costs and mpg?

Yep, my long term average MPG is about 26 - I can manage 35-37 on the motorway and my commute which is 50/50 motorway and town is about 24-25. It likes a drink but it could be worse and for what it is, it's a very cheap car to run. Touch wood mine's been perfectly reliable. £130 ish per corner for high performance tyres, and Ford's servicing costs are entirely reasonable. smile

I had an ST220 and it was a great car...

I'd have the Volvo now, though. Only because it's a completely different character of car that suits me better now. Hence why i now have a Saab. Similar to Volvos imo.

I'd avoid the 2.0D, if you must have an oil burner the volvo D5 is a better lump. The 2.0 is as far as I am aware the PSA derived ford unit. If you do some home work this could be potetnially expensive.

Go for the T5, much nicer interiors than the ford!

Great choice! I don't know much about the Volvos, but have generally been led to believe that they aren't the last word in handling, whereas the ST (especially for a front-drive) is outstanding. I moved from a 330Ci Sport (manual) before, and gained more driving pleasure. In particular, the steering, the sound, the willingness to rev. Also the ST is available so cheaply now, it would be rude not to own one.

Nice choice. I'm just curious what other cars got considered while you were narrowing the field down? I wonder how much overlap there is between these and other cars, such as some will think of them along with 3 series, others with volvos, Subaru legacies, saabs, vectras and accords.

Looking forward to the pics smile

Neither is the Mondeo, though for 'big' FWD cars they are both pretty good. In general, I think it's a case of engine vs everything else here. For the engine, do you prefer a N/A V6 or a turbocharged 5 cylinder? For me, I'd probably have the Volvo engine but IMO the Volvo wins everything else hands down.
