We are getting a new daily and are putting our MK1 Golf into our garage for a while so we can do a few things to it (new roof etc..) and look after it during bad weather.

Do I need to insure it whilst it is in the garage? It is a locked garage in a quiet cul-de-sac and I highly doubt anything will happen, just not sure whats best to do confused

If it's SORN without tax then no it doesn't need insurance.

Worth having a chat with your insurer to see if they do cover for cars temporarily laid up - as with classics - just in case something happens whilst its stored.

Legally - no, you do not need third party insurance on a SORNed vehicle.

If you're worried about it, you can get (significantly cheaper) "laid up" insurance for cars, which just insure them against theft and accidental damage, but not to be driven.

No need to insure it if you don't mind picking up the tab if garage burns down or someone nicks it.
