Working and travelling in London I have seen a number of registration plates in the following format:

345X664 or similar (always digits with an X in the middle)

Are they country plates or releveant to an embassy or something, never seen them outside of London, they appear to be attached to all manner of cars.

IIRC theres a PHer (or knows someone) with these plates on a blue Dodge viper, remember seeing a pic of it on here. Think he was in the US military and stationed over here or something.

I had a feeling they were for cars purchased on tax-exempt schemes (eg for export after a short period here).

I might be wrong and many would be related to embassies, but I have this feeling I read this.

I asked the same question about a year ago.

Its as above - Embassy cars but not diplomatic status.
