Hi all,

A friend of mine has just asked this:

ewenm's mate said:
My ABS light has stuck on and my speedo has stopped working on my astra. Any ideas of the problem (I have my own suspicions but don't want to embarrass myself here) and more importnantly what will a nice man in the garage charge me?
My first thought was knackered ABS sensor, but any more knowledgeable PHers able to give a better answer?

Cheers,
E.

It might be a speedo sensor that is faulty, which isn't too expensive. Or some dodgy wiring somewhere which might be quite expensive.

Check the wiring/connectors feeding the nsf wheel speed sensor.

Agreed with the n/s/f speed sensor.

On a Mk4 Astra, the ABS/speed signal is taken from the inside of the hub and thsu is the pickup has failed than it's a whole new hub. As has been said, check the wiring first as it's rather fragile and puny and can be pulled or even come loose easily. If all looks well, then it's a hub. Autovaux will be able to supply one for around £50 and fitting is easy, about 45mins DIY with two stops for a brew.
