Transferring a plate
Discussion
Is it possible to transfer a number plate from a car with no mot? The reason I ask is that my grandad had a plate which has sentimental value to my dad. The car has been in the garage untouched for years and I have just discovered that none of the family have done anything about it. It's a rover 75 and last time I saw it it was not in that good condition so may cost a fortune to mot. Any info much appreciated.

Bear in mind that how a car "looks" has little relevance at MoT. Within reason, a car that "stops and steers" is well on the way to a pass, especially if it's an older one and not subject to all the latest detailed checks. I guess the sums work like this,Sentimental value of plate + selling value of car with new MoT certificate = more than cost of getting MoT?

Read your policy as that advice is likely incorrect.
It seems a lot of people:
1) Assume they have DOC cover, when in fact they don't
2) Assume certain conditions related to the DOC cover (insurance, MOT etc)
It's not worth the risk - before you rely on it, read your insurance policy documents.
