Have you any idea what your car has cost you per mile?
Discussion
I was just looking at my 'current fleet' car which is a BMW E46 M3 cab in my PH profile garage whilst replying to another post and noticed the breakdown of running costs per mile based soley on depreciation and fuel costs.
Ive never really taken much notice of this before and was quite shocked to see it had cost me 69p for every mile covered just in depreciation and fuel!
I thought i would have a quick add up of of all the costs involved of owning an running my current car which I have had for the last 4.5 years to get a better idea of what it has REALLY cost me.
This included:
-Depreciation
-Fuel
-Insurance
-Tax
-Tracker subscription
-Tyres
-Servicing/parts/repairs
I have calculated to as close as i can that it has cost me £39k in total to cover 38k miles in four and a half years.
That works out at £1.02 for every one of the 38,000 miles covered!!
I know it is probably not one of the cheapest cars to run but it is by no means one of the most expensive either, but just over a pound a mile really does make you realise just how expensive running a car is these days.
I best not complain though,im looking to sell it in a few months time and buy myself a nissan GTR......should be interesting.
Cheers.

£2.33 per mile in the GTR though sure you can go through lots more fuel and tyres if you use it hard.

BMW 320d (owned Oct 2006 - Jan 2011) - £0.48/mile (all costs); £0.22/mile (fuel and repairs).
(All costs include every last car-related penny I spent, all added together, minus the amount I got in exchange for the car at the end.)
BMW 330d (owned Feb 2011 'til now) - £1.22/mile (everything); £0.24/mile (fuel and repairs).
(All costs include every last car-related penny I spent. I haven't sold it yet.)
"Fuel and repairs" is probably a better way of comparing cars, though I do quite like to track the cost per mile of absolutely everything...

when you say what 40k car to buy people always yell GTR!! but they rarely take into account the cost of ownership
Berlingo van around 24ppm over 20k miles. Including depreciation, tax, insurance and maintenance.
ZX12r around 100ppm due to low mileage and high fixed costs. Fuel, servicing and tyres is only around 35ppm. Tyres cost almost as much as fuel! The rest is depreciation, tax and insurance.
You've got to use 'em to get value for money.
