Tootling down the M6 to work this evening I noted signs on the overbridge at Southwaite Services proclaiming "new lower fuel prices," initially thought "yeah right" but then noticed on the way back that the "1/2 mile" sign had the petrol price displayed, first time I've seen this in a few years.

I know towards the end of last year they were charging 142.9p/L for unleaded so was surprised to see 132.9 advertised, as this is actually less than carlisle's BP forecourts...

Just wondered if this is purely a local thing or are there a few service stations realising that charging 10+p extra means they don't sell as much fuel?

I live close to Toddington Services, and run my XJ8 on LPG ... it's 84p a litre on the M1, but 72p a litre nearby, and it's been like that for ages, so guess they work on the principle most people won't be bothered to trawl the A roads for cheaper fuel.

BTW Sorry of the cost of LPG upsets you Petrol & Derv folks.........

Every services fuel price was around £1:43.9 on the M1, between Sheffield and Milton Keynes this evening; whereas the cost in Sheffield was £1:30.9.
