I'm in the lucky position to be able to spend around 35k on a new car, which just about gets me a new TTs but would also get me a 2-3 year old XK. I've got a 7 for weekend fun, and no kids to cram into the back seats, so what is the PH view on the choices?

Mileage is about 7k a year so economy not a great concern.

xk out of those two. Rarer, classier and more subtle.

Not overly keen on the TT's even though it's an 's' or 'rs' due to the image etc

I would however go for an aston martin vantage for that money given that it is rare and will hold it's value well as well as being a far more desirable car than either.

Or, a nice 997 's'

I would not be buying a brand new car. For the obvious reason !

Of the two, I'd get the Jag.

But there's plenty of other stuff I'd rather spend £35k on if it were me: a Porsche 997 or a BMW M3 for starters. Not quite so new, perhaps, but main dealer warranty should see you right.

Have to say i agree with above posters.

Plenty of much more awesome kit for that money....

I give you for 29k or 6k less than upper limit of budget...

Much rarer and cooler than either of the other two options.

Or

Or i would question why the price may be dodgy....

Pretty much smack bang on budget...

Or

These took me like five minutes to find and all are rarer and more special than either of the options you list plus cheaper in most cases.

Rare, cool, and with no dealers within a reasonable distance I already have covered

I'm not really into fast saloons nice though I'm sure BMW M's are, and 911/caymens are a little bit impracticable, hence coming down to TT vs Jag.

Has to be the XK.

Whlst I remember being absolutely blown away by the original TT the first time I saw one, I find the current one lacking in the same sense of occasion, particularly inside where it is pretty much "generic Audi"

The Jaguar on the other hand will give you a deep sense of well-being every time you sink into its luxurious cabin and waft down the road behind its wonderful V8...

When choosing my current car, I had a bit of a funding crisis that meant I had to start considering TTs. Thankfully it got sorted so that I could get the XKR. It's simply a class above.

An Audi is for a pushy tryer. A Jag is for someone who has arrived and doesn't give two figs. Apart from the new XK-RS that is; that's ghastly.

RS TT is very good and the S that i have is again good when remapped, depends on what you want as very different cars.

Some piccys to wet your appetite

Well known RS in the TT world, will be at our next track day

XK for me. Feels more special than the TT. I doubt there would be much difference in running costs especially when depreciation is taken into account.

XK, although I'd probably never be able to spend that much on a car anyway frown

Asides from the lack of 'new car smell', is they anything wrong/risky with a 2/3 year old XK?

If it's XK make sure you get a 5.0.

As quick in the real world as the older 4.2 XKR.

Gotta be the Jag for me, have you considered the BMW 6 Series? That's what I'd personally get.
