Hand car wash in wintry weather
Discussion
Drove past a local one on Sunday. There was fresh snow on the ground and salt on the road. Despite this there was a queue for the hand car wash like the British GP. It was bedlam. Apparently we live in austere times, but these people still find a spare fiver each week to spend on a car wash, even though on days like that their car will be equally filthy within one mile of setting off home again. Very odd.

Yes but thats like saying you don't take a bath/shower because as soon as you go to out and back you'll be sweaty again....or.... not taking a bath/shower because it was raining outside and you got soaked.

Having a grubby car doesn't make you smell. Well, maybe you do but I don't or.... not taking a bath/shower because it was raining outside and you got soaked.

I don't earn a large amount, and my car isn't particularly brilliant. However, I feel much better about driving in a clean, tidy car than a very dirty one. Even if it does get dirty again, it will still look cleaner for quite a while. Dirt and rain slides off a waxed car, dirt sticks to an unwashed one.
And yes, I might be better off putting that fiver in the bank, rather than spending it on washing my car once every three or four weeks, but then again I could not bother buying new clothes either.
You wouldn't have a dirty house. You wouldn't wear dirty clothes. A car can be seen as an extension of a person and their characteristics. You don't want to be picking up your girlfriend or a date in a dirty car, you want to impress on every level.
Seriously mate, might have found the wrong forum if you can't understand why people don't want to keep their possesions in good order. Little something called emptathy? Heard of it?

I always clean my car myself, outside my house with a bucket and sponge. Would never dream of paying someone else to do something so simple. The neighbours think I'm mad as we live 100 metres from a car wash.In fairness when I was using my van for 1500-2000 miles a week it was washed every weekend and sometimes midweek. A white van dripping in road soup is not a good look for the clients.
But not needing my car for image it can go a month between cleans unless it's beyond what I deem acceptable

Depends on how much your time is worth to you. £6 vs probably an hour once you include getting into appropriate clothing, getting the hose and pressure washer out of the shed, washing the car, putting all the stuff away, getting changed...s2sol said:

+1 My van is usually kept clean for the same reason, I try and wash is every week, even if it's just a quick jet wash. My car very rarely moves but still gets washed once a week if I can.But not needing my car for image it can go a month between cleans unless it's beyond what I deem acceptable

well, looks like I win the prize for being a car slob: I haven't washed my car since last September, when the s
tty weather started..In my defense, I must say that, here in Germany, it's forbidden to wash your car on the street (note: everything that's fun or could save you money is forbidden in Germany), and the car wash costs €12, over 10 quid: a lot of money to pay for having a clean car for a few hours. It's only a Golf anyway, who cares how it looks?

no no no.. have you ever looked at the car paintwork at a pressure washer depot? Flat as a flat thing can be.
