Anyone got any experience of Bury carphone cradles like this one? Just bought the car and would like to remove it. Not sure how the top bracket is fixed into the dash?

All advice gratefully received!

Its a clip. Prise the gap apart (carefully) and remove it.

Unscrew the bury bit and the bracket is fitted like this:

Or if I've not got the right car, it'll be on that site somewhere!

No idea, I think it was put on by the previous owner to the bloke I bought it off. Not liking the word 'glue' much, that sounds messy. Wonder what these manufacturers were thinking, that nobody would ever want to remove it?

Thanks for this Dommo, that's the one, looks like some potentially dangerous panel bending (or more likely snapping in my case) required!

Don't remove it. It's a charging unit - buy the appropriate cradle and use it!

It's a Brodit ProClip, they just push into the dash and the 'glue' is a piece of double sided sticky tape. You don't need to remove any trim to put them in (unlike the infinitely better DashMount units) so just give it a tug and it'll fall out the dash. Easy!

I don't know. But I like how your name is 'Blackpuddin' and you're asking about a 'Bury' car kit. yes

Yes that is peculiar I suppose, tho I actually originate from near Wigan.
I'm up for the suggestion of retaining this base unit and getting an iPhone 4 cradle for it but does anyone have a clue as to what Bury unit I've got here? Conveniently, there's no marking on it. All I can be reasonably sure of is that it's not a System 9 as the manufacturers had the brainwave of actually marking it as such.

This doesn't tally with what it says on the Brodit website mentioned above, on there it says nothing about sticky tape, according to this the clip edge appears to ping over the edge of the car trim.

There is sticky tape on the facing edges to hold it to the dash. I've fitted hundreds of them in the past! Generally the tape is on the side that hooks into the dash to provide extra stability.

Also, if you really wanted to be super careful taking it out, the silver trim insert in the dash is on pressure clips, it just clips out from the passenger side, then the small piece surrounding the radio is on one pressure clip to the right hand side of the radio. Again, it just clips out. That way there's no bending done, but honestly they are designed as a no-damage/no-drill solution, so they're dead easy to remove. Most of the time they tend to remove themselves if you hit a speed bump hard enough!

ETA - once you get the silver trim insert out, the radio is held in by 2 philips screws. Depending on how much of a job you want to make for yourself, you can either remove the radio and fish out all of the gubbins behind it for the handsfree kit, or you can cut the cradle off, insulate the wire stump and poke it back into the dash and forget about it.

You'll more than likely find that once the radio is out of the way, it's immediately apparent where the kit has been fitted. There'll probably be a cable going to the back of the radio for the telephone mute, a live and an earth from the brain stashed somewhere in the dash, and it'll be probably hooked up via a fuse to a live supply (or lashed straight into the radio loom if it's been a quick job).

BMW's are dead easy to work on. Even if the fitter has been a complete masochist and has stashed the kit behind the glove box, it's only about half a dozen screws to remove it.

Looks like a 'take and talk'... they do a general Bluetooth dock as well as the dedicated stuff
