Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel. What's it like?
Discussion
My Dad had one while his XF was in having some work done last week, fine for wafting along on the motorway and in city traffic but a bit lacking in power for overtaking etc. Bit more economical in everyday driving than the diesel S at around 36mpg instead of 28-30, and mid 40s mpg at "sensible" speeds on the motorway (but the 3.0 is equally economical at similar speeds).
The XF is a lovely car, if a little bit "old man" for my taste. It certainly appeals more than the BMW/Merc equivalents though.

Thanks for that, I do a lot of miles both on dual carriageways and in city traffic so it sounds from what you say the XF would work for me. I;ve had an 'X' Type 2.0 D for two years and am delighted with it.
I have toy for the more spirited driving so a 'wafter' for work is fine. Thanks again for your contribution.

Our 3.0 D has been the most unreliable car we've ever owned - was virtually faultless for 1st 12 months so certainly hasn't been problematic since day one, but no end of seemingly different unrelated problems since.
2.2 D seems to be barely any more economical than the 3.0 D so quite a lot of disgruntled owners on forums like XF Forum.
The XF is lovely to drive and very stylish but monthly visits to the dealer and twice being stranded (plus once being unable to lock the car) is unacceptable and we'll never consider owning another - be back to something German (or Czech) next for us.

Run an unmarked XF s which apart from a handbrake issue has been pretty faultless. Lovely to drive lots of grunt. Nice interior. Economy even with urgent driving taken into account is still early 20's although it can drop to 13-14 ( our t5's would be 6-8 at similar speeds).
Not sure on the 2.2 but can't imagine it's too shy.

Unless they spot you first. Not sure on the 2.2 but can't imagine it's too shy.

To the OP one of my sales guys has one and he loves it quite pokey for what it is and the face lift does look good, barring the daft DRLs
