Bonjour all!
Just a quick sunday morning question to put out to the PH collective knowledge bank.
I've taken the inlet manifold off my rover (216 1998 vintage) and I've been presented with the two below gaskets. Now, from what I've read online, shouldn't there only be one or the other gasket fitted? I haven't come across anything to say there would be two gaskets fitted. And in actual fact the paper/cardboard one didnt look a brilliant fit anyway. Should I have both? I've only got a new rubber one.
One of the reasons I'm asking is there seems to have been several botched jobs done on the car so it wouldnt suprise me if this was another one!
Any advice would be very much apprecitated!
Cheers

Far as I know from my limited research, the top one is the only one you want.

Can I ask where you got it from and what you needed to remove it?

The top one looks like an inlet manifold gasket.

the top rubber one is for plastic inlets, the lower one is for alloy inlet manifolds biggrin

The top one is the one I thought I needed.

The other one came off from where the manifold secures to the block - it was stuck to the block as opposed to the manifold though.
I think it might be a universal one which has been designed with several fitments in mind. However, I still cant see the need for two gaskets though.

They are both K-series inlet manifold gaskets.

The rubber one on the top picture is for the plastic inlet manifold (like your 1998 car). You only need this one gasket fitting.

The cardboard one in the bottom pic is for earlier engines that used a metal inlet manifold.

If it had both on then its been bodged.

Ah, as suspected, bodge job. Doesn't suprise me at all. Oh well, at last I've now got the opportunity to sort it now.

Thanks for all the advice guys. You can always rely on Pistonheads!

Just another quick thanks to those who had the knowledge earlier. The inlet manifold gasket has now been changed to a new green rubber one along with a new thermostat, new PAS belt and a new Alternator belt.
A good days work done.
Now time for a brew.
