Just wondering if anyone has experience of their work? Had a VAG 1.9 TDI engine in my work car detonate on me (09/63k) last week and Skoda quote 5k for a new engine (which is likely remanufactured anyway as don't think it's made any more) as opposed to the 2k Ivor Searle quoted and they have a 1yr/unlimited mileage warranty. We were going to try to get some goodwill from Skoda but it appears work has lost the service book for the car so I doubt anything will come of that!

Much of this is already in the "question for the VAG guys" post but I wanted to find some someone who has used them.

Thanks in advance!

Have you found the root cause of the initial failure?

As for the remanufacturer you have mentioned, the quality of their engines is very high.

Conrod exited the engine at multiple points was the rather sketchy report I got passed. More about it here if you're interested

Where did the conrod fail? In the centre, big end or little end?

Is the car a DPF model?

That's all I've been told- work car, not mine andI got the message that the conrod had gone through the "front" and "back" of the engine. Car doesn't have a DPF

Ivor searle do a good job, but you will need to factor in some more cash as you will not have a servicable unit to recon. Also you may well have lots of ancillaries that Skoda will change that you will then have to buy extra. Don't forget if the engine went so spectacularly wrong there may also be damage to the drive train. I have fixed many cars where the gearbox has also chipped a tooth from the force of the damage.

Will get them to assess the gearbox before going ahead, thanks for that. Quote was ex vat (business owns car) and ex rebate for returning engine because I agree it is parts at best and most likely scrap!
