I put my Insignia to into Arnold garage to be looked at yesterday under warranty as it had oil leaks from the passenger side and oil from the exhaust. It has come back with inlet manifold faults. The last service was done by my local garage. They say that in order to get it fixed under warranty, they must see the invoice from the garage to Vauxhall to see that they used genuine Vauxhall parts - is this normal? I feel like they're doing everything possible to not fix this under warranty.

Additionally - I asked for a price a piece of exterior door handle trim came off - they quoted over £100!

Manufactered in June 2009 I think, so still has 4-5 months of manufacturers warranty left.

Your warranty states that the car must be serviced in accordance with the manufacturers schedule, so they are perfectly right in asking for a receipt from the service done at an independent.

I have assurances from my local garage that they used Vauxhall parts, they have also have offered to write a note and stamp it to say that they always use genuine manufacturers parts but they say that Vauxhall won't accept it.

I also asked the Vauxhall garage why they couldn't look at the car to see if it had Vauxhall parts on it - Oil/Air filter but they said they needed to see the invoice to Vauxhall.

The local garage are hunting for the invoice but I'm not sure if they'll find it.

Worth raising myself with Vauxhall UK?

Absolutely, if you'd used a local garage who used cheap parts, and that's caused a failure of some sort, VX aren't going to sort it for you for free.

Hope you get it sorted out though.
Doesn't have to be genuine parts they just need to be matching quality. Dealers say this but under EU block exemption rules you can use any make parts as long as they are matching or exceeding O.E quality.

Thanks for that - how would you prove that though?

Each parts manufacturer will have a matching quality certificate that the motor factor can issue to the garage to solve issues like this. Also Google EU Motor Vehicle Block Exemption for a better explanation.

I've managed to get Vauxhall to admit that its only Vauxhall or equivalent parts, and they're not just looking for proof of service.

So, I just need to get the local garage to find and copy the invoice from the original service.

Moral of the story for me? Keep hold of invoices!
