....to the van driver that flashed me today, warning me of the scamera van. Not sure if you were a PHer and spotted my PH sticker or just an all round good egg. I wasn't doing stupid speed, 55-57mph on a 50mph dual carriageway.
We need more of this. smile

I always do this. Have to be careful though, it can land you in hot water.

I first experienced this in France. Without fail you get warning from the other carriageway of scameras units.

I had this a few months back. Top chap. I did the same to oncoming drivers the day after as the crafty copper was in the same place two days running!

Some kind chap did this to me recently aswell. Flash of headlights and waving me to slow down, so i did do thinking possible accident/police etc, sure enough as i crested the hill there was the bd sat in his special 'police vehicles only' lay-by.

I've heard they will have an undercover car driving back and forth past the van, when you flash him...nee naw, nee naw.

This happens all the time here in Germany. It's a traffic offence here too, but the chances of getting caught are pretty small, never heard of anyone being done for it.
Most of the time the cameras are placed somewhere where they know they can blitz the maximum amount of cars, and rake in the most in fines. It rarely has anything to do with accident prevention: Nanny state is permanently strapped for cash (nothing new here), and the poor motorist is an easy target, the same as in England I think...

I always do it and I'm delighted when people let me know. It's about the only camaraderie that you get between road users. Police should be commending this sort of behaviour as any other time there is a flash of the lights and a wave of the hand between motorists, it usually ends up in a road rage incident!
