Thought of something today... (E46 M3)

There's a E46 M3 near my work place which I walk past most days. This morning, as I saw it sat there my first thought was "It's a bit chavvy, bet it's owned by a desperate teenager" a sad thought indeed.
I'd like to point out that whilst I still have my flame suit on, I absolutely love these cars, and if I could afford one (and more to the point, the running costs!) I'd have one in an instant. I've never been in an M3 but I have been in lower spec models and found them to be great.
Back to the point... tbh, it probably has something to do with the owner one of one down my road, a friend of a friend of a friend
This guy just celebrated his 21st birthday recently and he drives around in a black E46 M3, god knows how much the insurance is. He is the absolute definition of a chav, screetches to a stop outside his friend's house, then wheelspins off again. Does he take an interest in cars like most of the members of this forum, or is he just driving it around in order to seem so damn 'cool' to his peers, and attract the teenage girls sitting on the seafront wall... I fear the latter. I also recently saw a red E46 M3 get in front of me on an A-road, and the guy zoomed off (must have been going at least a ton) and to top it off, placed both his hands on the back of his head, and continued driving at the same speed!
It's a real shame these cars are imo becoming tainted as I realise how awesome they are. I'd love a 330Ci Sport one day, they seem a bit less show-offy... have I just been unlucky with the drivers mentioned above or is this happening elsewhere too?

I guess maybe it's a stage they have to go through... you mention the E30 there, the M3 on that shape is an absolutely brilliant car, and I don't know any chavs that own one lol.

At 23 I still can't afford to insure an E36 M3 (I tried, very hard) for less than £1,500 - I vowed never to spend more than a grand on insurance. Most companies wouldn't touch me either, they were all specialists.
I find it hard to believe that anyone could afford to buy, insure and run an M3 without a large sum of money to start off with, considering most wages at that age range between £15,000 and £25,000...
Unless maybe that's all he spends his money on?!

I recently sold a 2004, Carbon black M3 for £7,800. It was advertised the following week at £9,800. It hasn't sold yet, unsurprisingly.
I have a 2001 here in Phoenix Gold at £6,450.
They're becoming affordable, and the insurance isn't as bad as you'd think. They'll soon have the chav reputation, which is a shame as they're a brilliant car.

I'd have to agree re: chav status of the E46 M3... so many of these have seen multiple owners, who clock them and pass them on when something goes wrong and they can't afford to fix it..
I remember looking for an SMG Cab around 6 years ago and even then it was hard to find one that hadn't fallen into the hands of the unwashed.

Just bide your time, ignore his antics and work towards getting your own. Generally life isn't fair and some complete tools do very well or manage to contrive themselves into a nice car, then ruin it or act like a goon.
When younger you tend to think things are fixed and that is how things will always be, you want things now but you have to play the long game, hard work will always pay off. It isn't a competition and you will find sometimes your peers are on top and sometimes you are, sometimes seemingly people seem to have everything, all their s
t together but sometimes its an act, finance, a whole fragile house of cards that comes crashing down so don't be drawn into that to "compete", just do things the right way.
I know people who were seemingly doing well, there is me in my Pug 309 "Look" they turn up in a new Merc, then something else flash and so on, they end up going to prison for fraud and I just carry on as normal quite happily.
Cars are great, but dont sell your soul for one !

I have no idea, never actually spoken to the guy directly. With the risk of going way to stereotypical, I do know a friend of his is quite into his drugs... probably just a mummy's boy though.

I think the image is the other way for Impreza's these days... usually fat old guy's trying to relive their youth, that's certainly not me so I know these images I talk about don't fit everyone lol.
