Hockenheimring - anyone been?
Discussion
I find myself spending a couple of days in Heidelberg next week, which is the next town along from Hockenheim. i was going to go along just to have a nosey around and try and find the Jim Clark memorial on the old circuit. but browsing the circuit's website i found out about what they call Tourist Rides, which appears to be arrive and drive laps ala nurburgring.

Has anyone been before? i quite fancy a couple of laps, but the website is a bit short on detail, for example they say it runs from 7-8pm, but this time of year it will be a bit dark then i would think? do they run all year round?
I will drop an email, to them to ask about hours next week, but i would like to hear about any Pistonheaders that have done this before.
Also if anyone has been to Hockenheim before, is there anything else worth seeing?

Went every year for a few years. Not been for a while though. I really like the circuit both for viewing and also for driving around. It's quite a small town with a couple of bell towers and some restaurants. There was a great Italian and also a Chinese if they're still there. Though TBH the last time I went was just after the circuit looked like loosing GP's and this had already started killing the town which was a great shame. One of the 2 Sinshine (spelt badly wrong) museums isn't too far away. If you've not done that and you're a petrol head then do it. Planes, trains, cars, cars, cars, bikes unbelievable place.
Not sure of the circuit drive you mention. I have always been there for pre arranged events

Thanks for the info Gixer, i've never heard of that museum before but the collection looks amazing! definitly going to have to take an afternoon there.
It is definitly a petrolheads trip, it is me and a couple of friends taking our BMW's on a pilgrimage to Munich to visit BMW Welt and Museum, going to be a good trip!

Damn.. just got an email back, touristenfahrten laps at Hockeheim do not run this time of year. still, got an excuse to go back now i suppose!
i'm still going to go and have a nosey around the circuit to have a look, looks like a fascinating place with the derelict old circuit going back to nature!
