Volvos current estates are...

V50 (Based on the focus chassis)
V60 (which i thought was replacing the V50?)
V70 (Which i thought was based on the old S60 saloon? But now the V60 is based on the NEW S60)

So what car goes in which catagory? Now the most recent V70 looks like its based on the S80?????

A list of their cars with the closest AUDI or BMW rival would really help me get my head round it i think!

And to make matter more confusing there has been photos of a V40 leaked now....

V50 - Coming to end of life, MK2 Focus platform, pitched between 1 and 3 series IMO.

V60 - Pitched at 3 series, A4 etc, if like XC60 based on Mondeo platform.

V70 - Larger car aimed at A6, 5 series etc. Though the current one seems smaller than they used to.

The new V40 will be closer to a hatchback, Focus/A3 Sportback/1 series than an estate.

Nope when you put it like that, but i thought the new S60 and V60 replaced the S40 and V50... Similar Size and Engines. But then again the NEW S60 has the OLD S60's name..

People say other manufacturers are hard to understand! This only came about after seeing a nice R-design V60 before, wish i didnt look now haha.

Thats a great help smile

My dads got the current V70 and has had two before and i always thought they were in between A4 and A6 interms of power and size. I mean the power available is more top end A4 and low end A6.

I'd assumed that the V60 replaced the V50, but when talking to my local Volvo service place it turns out the V40 that's being revealed next month in Geneva is the actual replacement.

It sort of makes sense, seeing as the original V40 was dropped and replaced by the V50, while the S40 stayed on and never became an S50.

I previously had a V70 and now have an A6. The A6 is quite a bit bigger, especially in terms of legroom.

So when do we get a new V90? All I want is RWD, 300hp and a boot you can fit a chuch in.
