I have come across a very keenly priced Ford Fiesta. Car is a 2007, 1.2 Style (not sure what that entails) with 70k on the clock and in very good condition. As it stands I can get it for a little under 2k and they seem to cost a bit more on this site from dealers

In a couple of weeks time I'll be ordering a new car with a June delivery and was thinking about buying the above then using it as a Part ex. The dealer I use is presently on holiday and not due back till next Wed, so can't ask him for a quote.

Lady above is getting calls on her car now, but has offered me fist refusal and I have till Sat morning to make a decision. So I'm trying to get a feel for a possible p/x price to see if it would be a worthwhile investment, anybody give an experienced quote?

I would say the trade value on that for june would be somewhere around 1000-1250.

ArthurDaley could be putting his money where his mouth is - Glass's aren't, they are only offering a "guide"

Autotrader seems to bear out the Glass's valuation though.

Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I can advertise my car at £5k or £10k. One or both might be correct if the right buyer was in the market, regardless of what Glass's say.

A bit of common sense tells you that an 07 Fiesta is worth more than a grand. Prime first car fodder, traders must LOVE cars like this.

It may be worth more than a grand to a retail buyer or it might not. I wouldn't buy it at any price unless I had someone already committed to buying it from me.

For a trader who has to buy it in, check it over, do any rectification work and probably a service and/or MOT, advertise it, allow test drives in it, provide a warranty and maybe a tax disc, mudflaps, tank of petrol, airfreshener, and new mats it might or might not have enough margin.

I don't know how much they need to cover all that, and I'm not saying whether the car is or isn't worth £1000, £2000, or £3000 - I'm just making the point that we are all entitled to form our own value-judgement, common sense or not, and the one handing over the cash has the final say, not some guide-book publisher or anyone else.

It's a 2007 Fiesta not a clunky 10 year old banger.

Tank of petrol, thats a good one. I didn't even get a tank of petrol with my AUC BMW so I can't see any trader budgeting for a tank of petrol in an 07 Fiesta! And rectification work, thats the oily rag you give it a wipe over with, right? Tax disc, isnt this a car with £30 road tax?

An 07 Fiesta is a dream car for a trader selling sub £5k stuff. They sell to easily pleased, non fussy buyers, they are simple, its new enough to have few if any issues, its cheap to tax, you are not going to get punters who want a test drive involving anything other than a trip round the block, etc etc.

Provided its not hiding anything nasty an 07 Fiesta will go through auction at over a grand all day long.

Not sure if it makes a difference but the new car I'm ordering will be 35k+ so I thought they might offer a good price on the Fiesta. I have no past experience as I've never p/x'd a car before.

Its worth more than that just take a look at autotrader, I would say at £2k its far TOO cheap ie make sure you HPI it etc - why is it such a low price?
Fiesta's usually sell themselves they are so poplular used.
P/x value will be virtually the same now or in 6 months on that car.

Seems too cheap, are we sure it's not a CAT D or 'spares only' etc?

Its cheap enough at that price but its done a few miles amd the markets littered with them, make sure its got air con and the heated front screen. Im pretty sure 80k is cambelt time on that as well.. Either way I think you will get your money back part ex time but Hpi it and check it drives ok.
