Works hit a bit of a bad patch and won't being improving so having 4 motors seams to be a very big luxury i cannot afford so something has to go :-(. But which one they all have positive and negative points. I live on my own have no kids or pets and do about 40 miles commuting everyday. just wondering what your thoughts would be

1)Fiat 126.
Pro's: cheap to run, full of character, in really good condition a definite future classic.
Cons: Not a long distance vehicle, Noisy at motorway speeds. Not very practical having only 2 useable seats and a tiny boot.

2)Range Rover classic.
Pro's: Proper 4 seater, Cruises like a dream, big boot, tows well.
Cons: Thirsty (despite being a diesel) More expensive to insure and tax than the Fiat, not so much character as the others

3) Series 2a landrover SWB.
Not gone for pro's or cons i don't think id sell this one as I've just rebuilt it over 3 years and it was first land rover i ever bought very high sentimental value

4) Series 1 80 inch landrover
Pro's: This was cheap and with prices the way they are i don't think i'd get chance to buy another anywhere near the spec i can build this to. Wanted one for years before getting this. A project which always appeals to me i can build it to my spec i have a new chassis and bulkhead to go on and rebuilt gearbox.
Con's: No where near usable needs a major rebuild, probably the most impractical of the fleet and i already have an "old"land rover

The other choice is sell all but the 2a land rover and pick up a diesel snotter for the commute

Personally, I'd get shot of either the Fiat or the Rangy. Assuming the 2a is old enough, you won't be paying RFL on either Landy & insurance will be a pittance.

The Fiat will cost less to run than the Rangy (naturally), but then the Rangy can cruise comfortably. Tough call, but if it were me, I'd probably ditch both & spend £1k on a 2001 diesel Mondeo or something

As a Landie man it pains me to say it but the S1 frown

You already have a Series, the 126 works as a toy and the Rangie as a diesel.

Likely to be worth a few bob too so will free up cash for the rest of the fleet smile

I think you've hit the nail on the head at the end there. Keep the one which gives you the most pleasure (apparently the 2a) and then buy a diesel snotter that just does the job of commuting you about.

FWIW I can recommend Audi A4 Tdi (B5 shape) as a very reliable unexciting commuter.

The series 1 would fetch 2.5K with all the bits a lot of money but i know if i did sell (lottery win excluded) i couldn't afford another prices are just on the up and up. As a fleet its about perfect, its a tough choice. Ive had euroboxes before and they don't seam to agree with me, but i can see the benefits

Part of me wants to say sell the fiat, but with you having 2 leafers iId say bin the rangie.

I'm sort of looking for a nice RRC.... I'll take it off your hands for £500 smile

This isn't ebay chaps! Realisticly the range rover is worth £1500-£2000? its not the best but it had a new engine and recon gearbox in 96 and only done 35k since I've a bill for £15k. And the engine is a 3.5 mazda SLTI not a weedy VM or TDi
