Hi,

I am buying car insurance over the phone (in the next few days) and was wondering, do I need any documents ready with me?

Also, (and I know I've made a few posts on this), but the car is not yet in my name as me being the registered keeper, does this need to be done first?

Thanks

When I have bought insurance all they have needed is the car details, Make Model Engine Reg No.

I can see no reason why you cannot insure the car immediately without it being in your name, providing you own it.

Isn't "own it" the same as being the registered keeper? Where/what is the difference?

Nope. Not even vaguely.

One example : If you buy a car on secured finance then the finance company owns the car until you have paid off the finance but the car will be registered in your name.

So how can the car owner change?

Also, insurers ask for how much mileage I do in a year, how is this proven? They don't ask for evidence?

An invoice when you buy it or a letter from the finance co saying that it's been cleared.

Your insurer won't unless you have an accident. Then, if they have suspicions, they can check MOT history or service history on a newer car.

If you are insuring a car the insurer needs to be told if your name does NOT appear as registered keeper.

They generally ask this question though, I think.
