Hi all,

Well it's time for some new tyres and I have no idea what to buy. Size I need is 205/45/16 W 83 (87 is also OK).

Would like to keep it under £100 each. Something that will be durable but also let me have some fun. It's for my mk1 Fabia vRS. Thanks to the weight of the diesel engine it's quite hard on the front tyres.

For reference I got 10k from Toyo Proxes and something like 15-17k from some Conti Premium Contact 2. Would be looking for something that can better the Contis, if possible.

Thoughts?

Michelin Primacey HP is good for tyre life. You should get 20k out of those if driven sensibly.

Hancooks are getting great reviews at the minute, comparable to some of the best tyres in wet and dry. They are a premium tyre now, but often a bit cheaper than the competition. Wear rate apparently OK, I can confirm grip levels on a 350+BHP S4 are as good as Contis!
Worth a look if you can get a decent price.

Same size tyre as me (Clio 182) and I've done 11k out of a pair of Kumho Ecstas on the front, they'll be getting changed soon. I do a lot of back road driving though.

Surprised to hear tales of 70% more life in Contis than Toyos eek

Thanks gents.

Yeah, the Toyos were shocking - most of my driving is motorway, too.

Will see if there are any deals around on the Michelin, £120 per tyre is crazy for a warmed up hatchback!

Keep em coming.

If you know anyone who has a Costco card, Michelin tend to be a bit cheaper there.

Not that much. We had some in that size fitted to our Fabia. The only one in that size is approx £120 per corner. They seem good at the moment though. Can't remember the exact model offhand.

A set of Michelin Primacey HP in 205/55-16 size last for 28K miles on my 160hp front-wheel drive Civic. I change back to front when front are down to around 4½mm and then replace all 4 at the same time when down to 2½mm.

Definitely Michelin (longest life + great grip), in your size you pay a very small premium over the best budget tyres such as Kumho or Barum, in 18" sizes Michelins can cost around £100 more each!

I find Camskill & Tyreshopper cheapest.

My toaster came with Hankooks from the factory and it's munching through them at quite a rate, down to 4mm at 10k miles which I thought was a bit premature for a 61bhp shopping cart.
